Think ahead when developing future farm leaders

A large part of the success of your farming operation in the future is based on its current—and future—leader. It's never too early to start thinking about who might be the person to fit that position. Do you have someone in mind yet? Will it be someone who is currently involved with the farm? Will it be a family member? Do they have a desire to lead? Have they shown themselves to be capable of running the farm in the future? Are they currently working to develop important leadership skills?

Darren Frye writes in Finance First, his weekly column at FarmFutures, about finding that successor and beginning their road to farm leadership. Follow this plan to make sure the right person is prepared to take over when the time comes, helping ensure the success of your farm long after you have handed off the reins.
